One golden rule I made for myself in tattoo work is never completely saturate the area when your coloring. I like to let it gradually fade out from a dark, deeply shaded area to the light source. If you completely color the area in one color, to me it looks very childish and....well shitty! I hardly ever use just one type of color for one area. Now its like several colors in one spot most of the time.
